4342 kcal later (50.1 km) - 17.03.2012

Three weeks before Two Oceans Ultra Marathon (56 km)  it was time for a last "long" training run. 50 km, which are important for body and mind.

Important for the body, to get him used to that distance.
Important for the mind, to recall this moment during the race and remember my mind, that I covered almost the race distance already.

The pace was very moderate and almost race pace. As a PUMA Pacer I'm not aiming for a personal best. It's my duty to keep a steady pace and finish in just a little bit less than 6 hours. Just a little bit is key, because I don't want to rush my fellow runners and "kill" them by running too fast. Or being to slow for quite some time and go into "sprinting mode" for the last few km...

It's been an important run for me as well, because I had some pain in my knees during the last two weeks. But it was just a short-time irritation, since I had no pain at all for the whole distance of 50 km. The reason for the irritation might have been using two new pairs of shoes for some training runs just before the pain started. Now, running with "old" shoes (between 150 and 600 km "old"), it's all fine again

I'll have a nice training program for the next few weeks before Oceans to get ready for both, Two Oceans Ultra and Comrades in June.

Right now I'm very much looking forward to the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon on April 7th 2012.
