Comrades #4 is calling.... 02.09.2013

Since 1st Sept 2013 the registrations are open for the 89th Comrades Ultra Marathon - and within the first 24 hours almost 2000 runners already signed in. I am one of them, looking forward to my 4th Comrades Ultra, which will be a "downhill" race again, on the 1st of June 2014.

This is why I run - Two Oceans Ultra Marathon 2013 Video - pure emotions...

If you want to know, why I just love the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, watch this video:

A masterpiece, showing you why running is so addictive...

And from 3min 16 - 3min20 you can see my wife Silke and me running: and we are practicing the "guided running" where I closed my eyes and she guides me, in preparation of my run with blind adventurer Hein Wagner.

3 Countries at one run AND climbing the biggest mountain of the Netherlands

(This blog post in German: 3 Länder auf einen Streich erlaufen...)

Since I am running several seminars for a client in Germany close to the border of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, I had the opportunity to run in all of those countries at one single run.

And this is not all: I also climbed the biggest hill of the Netherlands at the same time...

Starting in the village of Vaals (Netherlands)

You can't miss the way to the "Three Country Point"
through a beautiful forrest
And I made it: I climbed the biggest mountain of the Netherlands ;)

The "Three Country Point"

History live: The border
And right here the 3 countries Netherlands, Belgium, Germany meet

3 Länder auf einen Streich UND den höchsten Berg Hollands erklommen - Holland / Belgien / Deutschland - Lauf

(this blogpost in English: Running through 3 countries at one single run...)

Comrades Läufer sind überall - Comrades runners are everywhere

ENGLISH:

This week I ran a leadership training in Germany. During a breal I spoke with one of my attendees about running and I mentioned the Comrades. Seconds later a person from another training turned around, said "Over there is another Comrades runner" and pointed to someone across the room.

Surprised and happy I went to this person and it turned out to be Ulli (wearing a Comrades shirt) who ran 9 Comrades so far, including the heat battle this year. He is looking forward to his permanent number next year.

He also did Two Oceans this year for the first time and he liked it very much.

We shared our contact details and it prooved again, that sport is a great way to connect & that ultra runners are everywhere ;)

It is Sunday morning, 5 am, and I am sitting in front of my TV to watch the Comrades start. That's special... Looking forward to be there next year again.

And for the first time my wife can watch the start as well. Usually she is on her way to the first meeting point at the road at this time.

Comrades 2013 Blues...- 01.06.2013

(English version further down below...)

Last year, while running my 3rd consequtive Comrades Ultra Marathon, I made the decision not to run it this year.
It was COLD at the start (5 - 7°C or so...)

Tomorrow (2nd of June 2013) it's race day again and the Comrades will happen without my. Since yesterday I'm thinking about it all the time and think about the things I'd be doing right now if I'd happen to be in Durban. I miss the race, but I know, that I wouldn't have been able to prepare propperly and due to business arrangements I wouldn't be able to be there anyway.

The plus is, that I can watch the Comrades for the very first time on TV/Videostream online ;) Not too bad. And next year I want to be there again...
